The Monument is in the northwestern part of the state in the Texas Panhandle. On Route 136, six miles south of Fritch, take Alibates Road for five miles to Bates Canyon Information Station at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Access to the Quarries is by Ranger-guided tours.

Open Memorial Day through Labor Day. peak visitor month is July. Climate: Winter, 14 to 52 degrees F; Summer, 85 to 94 degrees F.
POINTS OF INTEREST
For more than 10,000 years, pre-Columbian Indians dug agatized dolomite from quarries here to make projectile points, knives, scrapers, and other tools.
